I just re-launched my website. The old one was programmed by hand. I’m a programmer, what do you expect? Now I am using WordPress.
It only took me less than a day to produce the website. I did the work on my local, at home server and copied everything that I wanted into WordPress. When everything was reorganized and looked fine I dumped the MySQL database and uploaded it to my website’s database. Then I uploaded the WordPress files. Finally, I had to change 2 lines in a WordPress file and 2 records in a database table so it knew its new location.
The WordPress user interface should make it easier for me to maintain my website. When I add new photos I will still have to upload the iPhoto generated pages via FTP, but then I can add the link to the Photo Gallery page in WordPress.
The most difficult part of the makeover was finding the right WordPress theme to use. I chose ShadowBox because it has a interface where I can change lots of things. ShadowBox also has the ability to include a banner picture.
If you are curious the 2 dogs in the banner are Salina and Darryl. Darryl is the black dog. You can read about them on the My Greyhounds page.
